William K. Timlen, 78, died peacefully on August 22 surrounded by family and friends. William, or just Bill to his friends and his wife of 53 years, Mary, was born in Jersey City.
Bill lived in Pennington after retiring from his career as a Social Worker for the New Jersey Department of Human Services. Though he worked for the state for 33 years, Bill defined his life by what he called his "game highlights," those exceptional moments that rush through our heads when things come to an end.
Bill especially loved his time on the "playground with the kids," his sons Billy and Richard where he would spend hours hitting them fly balls and teaching them the finer points of the game. He also enjoyed talking about his "Mayberry-like" childhood in Colts Neck with his best friend, Ray, and his sisters Pat and Peggy. One of Bill's proudest achievements was marrying his wife, Mary, of Newark, NJ in 1970. They were with each other through better and worse. Bill spent his youth flying, skydiving, scuba diving and riding motorcycles, and his middle aged and retired years playing hours of tennis a day.
Through all these achievements, Bill will be most remembered for being the "nicest guy" you could meet. He would do anything for anyone no questions asked.
Bill is survived by his wife, Mary, his sons William, and his wife Heather, of New Canaan, CT and Rich, of Keansburg, NJ; grandsons Tyler and Jack of New Canaan, Ct.; sisters Margaret, of Trenton, and Patricia of Jersey City.
Visiting hours will be Friday from 2 pm to 4 pm at Blackwell Memorial Home followed by a short prayer service.
