Pennington. Russell William Higginbottom, 102, died on May 18, 2014 at St. Joseph's Care Center, Lawrenceville with his daughter by his side. Born and raised in Millbury, Mass, he graduated from Clark University in 1933 with a degree in Chemistry and continued his education to become an electrical engineer. Following his marriage to Barbara Dedicke in 1941, they lived in Sutton, Mass before moving to Pennington in 1952. Russ worked at Roebling Steel from 1952 to 1955 when he began working at Triangle Wire and Cable Company in New Brunswick where he was employed as Technical Director for many years. With a strong work ethic, he continued to work as a consultant into his 90's. Russ was active in many professional organizations including ASTM, ICEA, IEEE, NEMA and NFPA. In addition, Russ was a a longtime member and former Deacon of the Pennington Presbyterian Church, a member of the Pennington Lion's Club and Pennington Players and former President of Pennbrook Club. An avid reader, Russ also enjoyed working outdoors, gardening, vacations in Greensboro, Vermont and time spent with family and friends. Always positive and kind, he truly loved life and will be greatly missed. Russ was predeceased by his parents, John William and Gertrude Russell Higginbottom, his six sisters; Gertrude Hult, Jane Werme, Florence Aldrich, Maude Haverty, Frances Hurley and Dorothy Higginbottom, his wife, Barbara Higginbotton, his son Jeffrey Higginbottom and special golden lady, "Molly". He is survived by his daughter, Andrea Higginbottom and nieces and nephews. Appreciation and thanks to Dr. Gujar, the nurses, aides and all the staff at St. Joseph's second floor for their kind and skilled care of Russ during the past two months. Additional thanks to all the private aides, including Mireille, Paule, Yatoc and Exalline for their patience and wonderful care during this time. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, at the Blackwell Memorial Home, 21 N. Main St., Pennington with the Rev. Nancy Mikoski, pastor of the Pennington Presbyterian Church, Officiating. Interment will follow in Pennington Cemetery.
