Michael Ey, 30, of Hopewell, New Jersey died in Redmond, Washington on February 28. He was born on September 19, 1984, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He graduated from Hopewell Valley Central High School, where he was active in woodworking and robotics, in 2003. While in middle school and high school he worked for Vox Juris Inc. in Pennington, New Jersey. Michael went on to study at Rochester Institute of Technology, earning a bachelor's degree in Computer Science in 2008, and a master's degree in Game Design and Development in 2010. Michael was employed by Microsoft in Redmond, Washington, where he worked on the HoloLens project. Previously, he was a software engineer for IMVU in Mountain View, California. His hobbies were science fiction, woodworking, Legos, and model aviation. Michael is survived by his partner, Kelley Piering; his parents, Robert and Irene Ey of Hopewell, New Jersey; his brother, David Ey of Berlin, Germany; his uncle and aunt, Tom and Linda LeLacheur of Ashland, Oregon; his great-aunt, Margaret Christiansen of Carson City, Nevada; and his grandfather, Clifford Ey of Savoy, Massachusetts. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 16, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church, Hopewell. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Blackwell Memorial Home, 21 N. Main St., Pennington, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Michael's name to the RIT Memorial Fund, Office of Development, Rochester Institute of Technology, P.O. Box 92765, Rochester, NY 14692-8865.
