Mary Massa, age 88, died on May 7, 2016, in Yardley, PA, surrounded by her family.
Born in Brooklyn on July 14, 1927 to Domenic and Agnes Capuano, Italian immigrants. She was the youngest of six children.
She married Gaetano (Tom) Massa on October 13, 1946. They moved to Staten Island, NY with their sons in 1961. Mary worked as a check processing troubleshooter at Manufacturers Hanover Trust, in the New York financial district.
She moved to Lafayette, NJ, with Tom in 1985. Shortly after she joined multiple Lafayette and Sussex County Senior Citizen organizations. Mary spent the next decade acting as an advocate for Senior issues. She served as President of Lafayette Senior Citizens for two terms. She was honored as Senior Citizen of the Year in 1998.
She moved with her family to Carmel, Indiana and continued her advocacy from 1998 to 2004. She lived in Lawrenceville, NJ from 2004 to 2016.
Mary is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Toby and Barbara Massa, her son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Debbie Massa, grandchildren, Elizabeth Massa, Kate and David Paynter, Michael Massa, and Courtney Massa. Also surviving are her brother and sister-in-law, Mario and Rose Capuano, and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in St. James Church, 112 East Delaware Ave., Pennington. Interment will be in Ewing Cemetery, 78 Scotch Road, Ewing. Friends and relatives may call on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Blackwell Memorial Home, 21 North Main St., Pennington. For condolences visit website blackwellmh.com.
