Martha Daniels Scheirer

Martha (Marty) Scheirer passed away on December 23, 2023. Marty was born to the late Edna and Walter Daniels on February 19, 1930 in Mt. Ephraim, NJ. Marty was preceded in death by her University sweetheart and husband of 70 years, Paul Crawford Scheirer, Jr., her son, Paul Crawford Scheirer, III, as well as her three sisters Edna Parker, Jean Bower and Ruth Harrington. 

She is survived by her daughters Deborah (Christopher) McKinney of Downingtown, PA and Sandra (Christopher) LaCasse of Pennington, NJ and daughter-in-law Margaret Scheirer of Syracuse, NY. She is survived by 7 grandchildren - Sean McKinney (Nadia), Kathryn Scheirer Hopkins (Corey), Lisa McKinney Victorius (Jared), Jim Scheirer, Taylor Robinson, Cassandra Robinson and Estefan Paul LaCasse, and 4 great-grandchildren - Jaelyn McIntosh, Davis Victorius, Jared Victorius Jr. and Mia Jane Hopkins. She is survived by sister-in-law Elizabeth Scheirer Canfield, brother-in-law James Scheirer and many nieces and nephews.

Marty was a dedicated mother, grandma, and great-grandma as well as an avid bridge player and an enthusiastic golfer. She taught at the Pennington Presbyterian Nursery School for twenty-seven years. During her fifty years living in Pennington, New Jersey, she volunteered for numerous organizations including the Girl Scouts, Mercer Hospital (Capitol Health System), Pennington Public Library (where she also served as treasurer of the Board of Trustees) as well as Pennington Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon, a Sunday School teacher, and a member of the bell choir. 

Marty and Paul met at Ursinus College and were married on April 18, 1952. They moved from Pennington to Pennswood Village in 2007, where they enjoyed their time with both new and old friends. They played croquet, bocce ball, and introduced Wii sports games to Pennswood. They loved playing duplicate bridge and Marty enjoyed water volleyball. Marty also volunteered with the dance/party committee, Meals on Wheels and at the nearby Newtown Friends School. 

 In lieu of flowers, please send contributions in her memory to Pennington Presbyterian Church or the Pennington Public Library. 
 
 A memorial service will be held at Pennington Presbyterian Church 13 S Main St, Pennington, NJ on Saturday January 13, 2024 at 11am. For those who cannot attend in person, the service will be livestreamed.  Go to the church’s website pennpres.org and there will be a link there on Saturday to the service.
