Martha Bragg Newman

November 1, 1922 — December 14, 2017

Martha Bragg Newman, 95 passed away peacefully Thursday, December 14, 2017 while residing in Brandywine Living at Pennington. For the few weeks preceding her death, Martha had been under the tender care of the staff at Brandywine and Princeton Hospice.
Martha was born in Moulton, Alabama and resided in Alabama until her marriage when she moved to Richmond, Virginia. In 1962, Martha relocated to Hopewell where she raised her three children. Despite living more years in the North, Martha retained her infectious southern draw to the delight of all who met her.
After raising her children, Martha was fortunate to obtain a position with Princeton University in Alumni Records. Martha greatly enjoyed her work responsibilities since she was privy to the records of Princeton graduates, many of whom had fascinating histories. While maintaining their confidence, she often smiled saying that she knew such interesting information about several of the notorious Princeton graduates.
With her strong family roots in Alabama, Martha frequently visited her family there, being graciously welcomed by her loving and admiring relatives. Martha instilled her love for the deep South in her children and their families. Southern hospitality was Martha’s trademark as she entertained during holidays and birthdays. Martha delighted in welcoming others into her home to enjoy her southern cooking including many specialties such as fried okra.
Martha was predeceased by her parents, Wilbur Clark Bragg and Melba Holdridge Bragg and her two brothers, Wilbur “Bill” Bragg Jr. and Kenneth Bragg, but is survived by her sister, Charlotte Hall. Martha’s passing was also preceded by her husband, Mogene “Red” Newman. She is survived by her sons, James Newman, John Rodney Newman and his son Benjamin. Also surviving is her daughter, Rebecca Morrison, her husband James, and their three children, Amanda, and her daughter, Katherine Kovacs, as well as Kendall Morrison and Ryan Morrison.
