With deepest sorrow, we announce that our beloved Julia “Julie” Aline Schlette Lenz passed away unexpectedly on November 25, 2023 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. She was 36 years old. Born in Boston and raised in Pennington, New Jersey, Julie lived in Maryland for the past 8 years.
Julie is survived by her husband William J. Lenz; her parents Theodore and Deborah Schlette; her sister Audrey Stilwell (husband, Tyler) and cherished nephew Oliver Stilwell; her grandmother Margaret Upjohn Kole; many extended family members and caring friends. She was predeceased by her sister Abigail Kole Schlette and her grandparents Larry L. Kole, Blanche Nina Schlette and Wilbur F. Schlette.
From a young age, Julie exhibited an innate kindness and desire to help others. She was a camper and then a counselor at Camp Discovery for Kids, which offered children living with a chronic skin condition a one-of-a-kind camp experience. During high school, she organized a knitting club at a local assisted living facility and enjoyed many afternoons with a group of residents. After college, Julie spent six weeks volunteering at an orphanage in Tanzania. Before moving to Maryland, she traveled with a mission group to Guatemala, where she helped build a home and delivered supplies to a local orphanage.
Her close relationship to her paternal grandmother inspired her to study Gerontology at Misericordia University. She then spent several years working with autistic adults at a residential facility near Princeton, NJ. In Maryland, she worked as an activities coordinator and driver for Celebration Villa of Manresa in Annapolis. She was beloved by the residents she spent time with on a daily basis. Julie loved being outdoors. She enjoyed creative pastimes like knitting, coloring, cracking codes and playing games with family and friends. She was always ready to help. She loved children, especially her nephew Oliver. Julie will forever be remembered for her beautiful smile, caring heart and the unconditional love she gave to others.
We will celebrate her life with a service at Pennington Presbyterian Church in Pennington NJ, on April 26, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the orphanage where Julie volunteered can be made in her name. The Tanzanian Children’s Fund https://tanzanianchildrensfund.org
