Janet Dansberry Bloor, age 96, died peacefully at home on December 4, 2023. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry, whom she had been married to for 64 years. She was born in Hopewell, New Jersey, on September 21, 1927, the daughter of Scott and Lillian Dansberry.
She lived in the area her entire life and knew every back-road shortcut there was. She helped her husband Harry with the plumbing and heating business that they operated for many years – she handled the secretarial end while Harry installed the bathtubs. She also worked outside of the family business for various enterprises and institutions such as the Gallup Organization, Firmenich, Princeton University, and the Pullman Company. Her last position was working in her own business called Bloor Secretarial.
Janet loved houses – she and Harry owned a few places in Vermont and most recently, a place on Long Beach Island. She had a gift for decorating and enjoyed remodeling them all. Jan took special pride in the appearance of the home that she and Harry built 70 years ago.
Jan had this thing about cars. She loved cars and she loved driving them. She especially loved cars with big engines as her right foot seemed heavier than her left one. Her garage housed everything from a Camaro to a Cadillac to a Mercedes at one time or another and she drove them all with authority.
She is survived by her son Scott (Hilary), two grandsons, Taylor (Phu Christine) and Carter (Ainsley), and four great-grandchildren, Finley, Hudson, Brynley, and Henry. Private services will be held. If you wish, donations can be made in memory of Jan to the Terrapin Nesting Project c/o
