James E. Daggett III

New Bern, NC James E. Daggett III died peacefully on November 6, 2014. Jim was born May 6, 1929 in Newark, N.J. Jim was predeceased in death by his parents, his sister and his son, John. Surviving him are Mary Ellen "Jackie", his wife of 61years; his daughter , Jayne Daggett McGinn, both of New Bern, NC and his four grandsons, Matthew, Andrew, Luke and Caleb. Jim was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy after serving 4 years in the Persian Gulf. He graduated from Rider University in Lawrenceville. His career spanned 33 years with American Standard, first in Trenton, then in the corporate offices in Northern NJ traveling the world as a Material Handling Engineer. Jim was an avid fisherman and loved to restore and refinish antiques, not only for his home but for an extensive client base in New Jersey as well. He loved serving his church, singing in the choir, ushering on Sunday, or merely volunteering his time. His greatest joys in life were being a father and grandfather and celebrating their accomplishments, but above all, loving and serving his wife of 61 years(whom he swept up as a young, handsome sailor at Virginia Beach) everyday of his life. Jim always had a joke and a smile to share and never met a stranger. He was an amazing husband, a wonderful father and grandfather and a joy to everyone who was lucky enough to meet him. Funeral services will on Friday at the Tabernacle Church in New Bern, NC. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to YMCA Camp Seafarer, 218 Sea Gull Landing, Arapahoe, NC 28510, Earmark Memorial Garden/Jim Daggett or in memory of John Daggett, New Jersey Organization of Cystic Fibrosis, 137 Union Blvd. Totowa, NJ 07512.
