George W. Ingenbrandt

George W. Ingenbrandt, son of George Phillip and Estella Ingenbrandt passed away on March 27, 2016 at the age of 92. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years Mildred G. Ingenbrandt, daughter Connie Condict, her husband, Carroll, and two grand-daughters: Jackie Condict and Meredith Herbert and husband Jeff.

George was born in Trenton and educated in Hamilton Township, graduating in 1942. The same year he was drafted to serve in World War II as a control tower operator with the 20th Army Air Force on the Pacific Islands of Saipan and Marcus. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

Following his discharge he attended Rutgers University ('48) where he earned a bachelor's degree in Modern Languages. He continued on to earn master's degrees in English and Education.

In 1948 he began teaching in the Ewing School system. He was chairman of the high school English department for 13 years. He then became a German-English professor and head of the Foreign Language / Liberal Arts departments at Trenton Junior College, which later merged with Mercer County College. After 40 years of high school and college teaching, George retired but continued to teach a variety of courses to senior citizens for another 24 years, enjoying his classes at Princeton Senior Center, Princeton Junction Senior Center, the Jewish Community Center, and ECHO.

For many years he also led tours, taking groups to Europe and running many local trips.

During his lifetime he was very active as a lay reader and Sunday School Superintendent at Trinity Cathedral, and later as a lay reader at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Newtown, PA.

He had many hobbies, including gardening, collecting stamps, caning and rushing, painting and drawing. He was also interested in travel, and loved local and European history.

Calling hours will be held Friday April 1 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the Blackwell Memorial Home, 21 N. Main St., Pennington, NJ. A funeral service will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 100 Washington Ave., Newtown, PA, 18940 at 10am on Saturday April 2, 2016. Burial will follow immediately at Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the charity of your choice.
