Frances C. Vannoy

Doylestown, PA. Frances C. Vannoy, 93, of Doylestown, PA died on December 3, 2013 in Doylestown Hospital. Born in Pennington, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Jesse C. and Jessie Snook Vannoy. After graduating from Central High School, Pennington, she studied Home Economics Education at The Pennsylvania State University, receiving a B.S. degree. Ms. Vannoy was a teacher at the Saxton-Liberty School in Saxton, PA, Boonton, NJ School System and Coatesville, PA, Scott High School. She attended summer sessions at Rutgers University and Cornell University and began her career with the Agricultural and Home Economics Extension Service of The Pennsylvania State University in June 1948 in Berks County, PA. In January 1949, she was assigned to Bucks County Cooperative Ext. Service, where she served as Extension Home Economist until her retirement in October 1980. Her responsibilities included supervision of the 4-H Programs in Home Economics and work in Family Living programs throughout Bucks County. At the beginning of her career, much of her work was done on a one to one basis. As the county population and responsibilities increased, mass media, news articles, radio programs and television were used to reach more people. A nutrition program for low-income families was emphasized especially during the latter part of her career. Ms. Vannoy was active in professional organizations allied to her profession- the Pennsylvania and National Associations of Extension Home Economists for which she served as president and various committee chairs for the former; regional Counselor and 3rd V.P. of the latter. She was an active member of both the Pennsylvania and American Home Economics Associations. In 1959, she was recognized as a Senior Home Economist by her state office. She received the Distinguished Service Recognition of the National Association of Extension Home Economists and was honored by Bucks County Homemakers-especially for 25 and 30 years of service and at her retirement. Ms. Vannoy was an active member of the Doylestown United Methodist Church at which she served on various committees; a member of the Soroptimist International of Bucks County since 1952-for which she served as President, Secretary and many committee chairs; the Bucks County Historical Society-for which she served on the Friends Committee as Treasurer for many years; the Lingohocken Garden Club; a member of the Chapter AZ, PEO Sisterhood since 1978, for which she served as Secretary, Treasurer and chaired various committees. Ms. Vannoy was an enthusiastic traveler who visited many foreign countries. Travels to India, Nepal, Sri-Lanka and New Zealand were affiliated with her profession. Survivors Ms. Vannoy had lived at the Pine Run Community since December 2003. She was an active Villager, serving on numerous committees. Ms. Vannoy is daughter of the Late Jesse and Jessie Snook Vannoy, sister of the late George Vannoy, Florence Burr, Jeanette Barbour and aunt of the late Thomas Burr. She is survived by two nephews, George Vannoy of Andover, NJ and David Barbour, III and his wife Margaret of Langhorne, PA, two nieces , Linda Laster and her husband,. Larry of Broken Arrow, OK and Barbara Rippetoe of Mason, Ohio and many great nieces and nephews and a great great niece and great great nephews. Memorial Service will be held on January 2, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Doylestown United Methodist Church, 320 Swamp Road, Doylestown, Pa 18901. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Doylestown United Methodist Church. .
