Titusville. Eric W. Turner, Jr, 94 , died peacefully, July 26th at Chandler Hall, Newtown, PA after a brief illness. Born in Trenton, Mr. Turner was a life-long resident of Pennington and Titusville. He attended Pennington Public schools and was graduated from Rider College in 1947 . During WWII, Mr. Turner completed courses at Princeton University under the Navy V12 program before joining the 29th Marine Regiment, 6th Marine Division serving with that unit on Guadalcanal, Okinawa. Guam, and Tsingtao, North China. He was awarded the "Purple Heart" for injuries received during the battle of Okinawa. His regiment was scheduled for the invasion of Japan in the fall of 1945. Before retirement in 1987, Mr. Turner was President and CEO of Mercer Insurance Group, Pennington, completing 37 years with that firm. He also held positions in several insurance organizations ancillary of Mercer of which company he was director emeritus Son of the late Eric W. and Frances H. Turner Sr. of Pennington and preceded in death by his sister, Joan T. and brother-in-law Richard E. Bellis, he is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruth Sheppard Turner of Titusville; daughters, Linda T. and (SIL) Jonathan L. Narducci of Merrimack, NH, Gail T. and (SIL) Richard W. Butterfoss of Pennington; and son James E. and (DIL) Diane K. Turner of Ewing; four grandchildren, Erin Narducci of Lakewood, CO; Bryan T. Butterfoss of Pennington; Carrie Narducci of Seattle WA; Amanda L. Hujber of Pennington, a niece Carol Czyzewski, nephews, Scott Bellis, John and David Sheppard and many great grandchildren. Mr. Turner was a former Trustee and Elder of the Titusville Presbyterian Church and held membership in the 6th Marine Division Association, Disabled Veterans Association and Hopewell Township American Legion Post 339. He enjoyed landscape gardening, painting, writing, foreign travel, camping and was an avid canoeist. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 31, at the Blackwell Memorial Home, 21 N. Main St., Pennington, interment will be in Harbourton Cemetery, Harbourton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. on Friday until the time of the service.
