Dora Kastrinos

Dora Kastrinos, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully with family on April 6, 2018, at the age of 92, in Cedarpines Park, CA. Dora Frances Hancock was born on Aug. 1, 1925, in Millers-burg, IA, to Frances Beatrice (Goss) Hancock and Arthur Winter Hancock. She grew up in Westmont, IL, and attended Northern Illinois University, where she received a bachelor of science degree in music education. Dora married William Kastrinos of Chicago on June 12, 1947. They moved to Pennington, NJ, in 1964, where she resided for over 50 years. She attended Trenton State College (The College of New Jersey), where she received a certificate in library science. She was a devoted teacher and librarian in the Hopewell Valley Regional School District for 12 years, and worked with the Princeton University music department for four years. Dora was very active in the United Methodist Church of Pennington, where she sang in the choir and often accompanied them on piano. She was also a frequent volunteer with the Methodist Church's many charitable efforts to help the homeless and others in need. Dora's passion in life was music and she was an exceptional pianist, with a preference for classical and ragtime. She also enjoyed golf, gardening, and travel, accompanying her husband on trips to the Montreal Olympics, Europe, and Indonesia. She was an active member of New Jersey Education Association (NJEA), National Education Association (NEA), Mercer County Retired Teachers, United Methodist Women, and the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP). She was a proud and adoring grandmother and great-grandmother, who loved hosting holidays, vacations and family gatherings. Dora was predeceased by her husband, William Kastrinos, and brothers, Arthur and George Hancock. She is survived by her son, William and daughter-in-law, Sharon, of Cedarpines Park; son, Glenn and daughter-in-law, Kjelsty, of New Zealand; son, John and daughter-in-law, Margot DeNoie, of Reading, MA; granddaughters, Nicole Kastrinos of New York, NY, Amy Collins of Angwin, CA, Kathryn Kastrinos of Portland, OR, Ian and Nathaniel Kastrinos of Reading, MA, and Dorian Kastrinos of New Zealand; and great-grandchildren, William, Everley, and James Collins of Angwin. Services will be at Pennington United Methodist Church, 60 South Main St., Pennington on Saturday, April 28, at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
