Christina L. Chervenak, 93, passed away peacefully in Hamilton Grove on
Dec. 27, 2016. She was born in Beckley, WV to J. Albert and Grace Bailey Lares on Oct. 14,
1923 and was a resident of Pennington, NJ for over 60 years.
Christina was a devout Christian, devoted mother and wife, fabulous cook, accomplished
seamstress and whiz with numbers. She held many jobs throughout her life, from her first
employment at Woolworth to her last as secretary at the Pennington Presbyterian Church.
She was generous in volunteering her time and talents to various individuals and
organizations including the Pennington Library, 4-H, and Pennington United Methodist
Church where she last served as treasurer for many years. She was an avid reader and
member of the former Pennington Kleio Club. She treasured family vacations at Myrtle
Beach, loved to swim, and was a member of the Penn Brook Swim Club and Early Morning
Swim group.
Chris is predeceased by her parents; husbands, James Forrest Allen and Michael
Chervenak; daughter, Jamie Allen; brothers, Leo Lares and David Lares; sister, Wanda
Gravely; and son-in- law, Earle Johnson. She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth “Betsy”
Johnson and Grace Allen Hollendonner and husband, Bruce; two sons, Michael Chervenak
and wife Linda and Robert Chervenak and wife Deborah; and a brother, The Rev. John
Lares and wife Sandy. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and many great
grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31, at the Pennington United
Methodist Church, 60 South Main St., Pennington, with the Rev. Dan Casselberry officiating.
Interment will follow in Harbourton Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday evening from 6
to 8 p.m., at the Blackwell Memorial Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to
